Once upon a time there was a country with thriving pubs. Smokers and non smokers all together, nice and warm. Everyone minding their own business (especially landlords) and having a good time.
But one day, along came action on, smoking and health and said to the gov "Give us money so that we can pressure you to change the law"
So that's what they did. And so action on, smoking and health started to "represent" us all, and the gov said "Oh look everyone, we've been naughty letting people smoke in pubs. Action on, smoking and health told us so. They're a charity, you know. Honest.
And then on 1st July 2007 the gov ruined pubs. 2,500 of them closed, not due to cheap supermarket booze because pub booze has always been dearer, not due to bad weather because this country has always had less than great weather and it has never changed a thing, but because of the smoking ban.
Non smokers who never cared about smoke cried and went home, unable to soc-ialise properly. Smokers did the same. And an tis didn't come to replace them.
But the really sad part was that antis never admitted to their error of judgement. Whenever they were invited to have a real discussion, they didn't want to know.
I think I'm going to cry. I told you it was a sad story. Admin, can I have a tissue please? No no, I don't mean one of the ones that you use after you pleasure yourself over pub closures.
By the way, apparently you're not allowed to say "soc-ialise" in this forum without being told off. How many clues does anyone need? |
